Stupak- Give it up or GET OUT

I live in the first district as well, and there are so many unemployed here that would love to take those summer jobs on Mackinac Island or anywhere else, it ain't even funny.

The reason you seasonal business owners can't get workers is because you don't want to pay them squat, offer no benefits, lay them off before they can work up unemployment benefits to get them through the winter again, and therefore make it impossible for them to make a living with you if they try.

They don't have the option to go back to Jamaica when the season's over to make beds and serve drinks to the snow birds and jet set. They've got homes and families right here in the first district to try to support through some tough winters. Their bills and mortgages and rent payments and need to put food on the table doesn't stop just because the season's over and the business owners are settled in nice and cozy and living off the season's profits.

Stupak better start thinking about THOSE people for a change, and he needs to stop voting with his crucifix and his prayer beads and his bronze-age mentality towards social issues, and get with the program of serving THE PEOPLE of his district. I can tell you right now that I'm ready to do everything I can to influence others to vote him right the heck out of office, especially after this latest fiasco of the "Stupak amendment" that was like shooting a torpedo into the health care negotiations.

A lot of people I've talked to are already appalled at ol' Bart for some of his bone-head moves up there on the Hill, and this latest one got WAY too much negative attention to easily forget.

And I'll tell you something else: After listening to him on the first district conference calls, there's no doubt in my mind that he's a theistic nut-job who needs a new employment path. I'm thinking making beds and serving drinks on Mackinac Island would be a good career move for him.

America's Real Terrorists

How The Far Right Is Turning Houses of Worship Into Houses of Ill Repute

When Religious Extremists like Pat Robertson and James Dobson get their way:

"Tax funded "faith-based" initiatives force citizens like you and me to pick up the tab for the Religious Right's ideology-based social agenda;

"Marriage amendments" bring out to the polls many anti-gay voters, and decide elections;

Houses of worship endorse political candidates, violating their tax-exempt status;

More restrictions are imposed on reproductive services, destroying a woman's right of choice;

Medical interference by far-right politicians who meddle in the private decisions of families like Mrs. Terri Schiavo's;

Meddling pharmacists at the drugstore who refuse to fill birth control prescriptions on "moral grounds";

Religion instead of science in our classrooms, where teaching Creationism makes us all look like monkeys;

Misguided public funding for religious schools through school vouchers.

Advocates of Creationism are pushing school boards to adopt a so-called "academic freedom" policy -- thereby sneaking in fundamentalism through the back door. Americans United recently won a landmark case against a Dover, PA school board, defeating their efforts to teach "intelligent design" in science classes.

What Republithugs Stand For

Here's what the GOP stands for at this point:

Enhanced interrogation
Extramarital affairs
White paranoia
Invading any country they want
Spending whatever they want
Increasing our debt to the point that we can't even afford to defend ourselves anymore
Privatizing our military so we have no control over our own wars
Increasing the size of government to never-before-seen lengths
Allowing lobbyists free reign to forge letters and lies
Letting bankers get away with anying thing they want
Surveilling the entire citizenry
Handing out taxcuts to the rich and to large corporations
Squashing small businesses by burdening them with health care costs
Sending American jobs overseas in the name of "free-market" economics
Refusing adequate medical care for our veterans
Sending soldiers to war without adequate equipment
Leaving 16% of Americans with no access to healthcare
Ignoring the Constitution ("It's just a g---mn piece of paper")
Placing the president above the law, as if we were a monarchy
Shifting money to the top of society
Leaving everyone else to fend for themselves

These people have turned what once may have been a "Grand Old Party" to a party that stands for racial, economic and religious divisiveness and petty distractions.

Additionally, they really are the party of "no"; they're against things and not for things (other than corporate welfare and tax cuts for the rich); They're against: non-European immigrants (legal or otherwise), reproductive choice; health care reform; gay rights/marriage; Head Start, ACORN; diplomacy over preemptive strikes; gun control for assault rifles, rocket launchers and tanks in case the government comes to confiscate legal handguns; affirmative action for qualified minorities; ; SCHIP (health care for poor kids); ecology, conservation and global warming; civil rights (you can't cop an attitude when challenged in your own home); affordable housing and student grants and loans; regulation for huge industries run amok; stimulus monies; hate crimes legislation; minimum wage; cash for clunkers; laws for clean air and water; free school breakfasts and lunches for kids not lucky or smart enough not to be born into poor families; wise Latinas and discrimination against anyone except white males; etc. In sum, they're pathetic.

No wonder they want the media to obsess over the non-issues

Politics Defined

Politics is a process by which groups of people make decisions. The term is generally applied to behaviour within civil governments, but politics has been observed in all human group interactions, including corporate, academic, and religious institutions. It consists of "social relations involving authority or power" and refers to the regulation of a political unit, and to the methods and tactics used to formulate and apply policy.

"Politics" ultimately comes from the Greek word "polis" meaning state or city. "Politikos" describes anything concerning the state or city affairs. In Latin, this was "politicus" and in French "politique". Thus it became "politics" in Middle English.

There is no academic consensus on the exact definition of "Politics" and what counts as political and what does not. Max Weber defined politics as the struggle for power.
